Clearcable and Lambton College are in a Picture-Perfect Partnership

HAMILTON, August 2, 2017 — Clearcable is partnering with Lambton College located in Sarnia (Ontario) for a one-year research project that will utilize artificial intelligence to establish high- quality live television online streaming.
The collaboration will establish a measurement process and method for assessing the quality of live streamed video. It will set parameters and guidelines for ensuring optimized high-quality streaming video and will reduce these data points to a software-based tool to automate measurement and reporting.
“The key to fulfilling the market demand will be verifiable quality of experience,” said Rob McCann, president and founder of Clearcable, a successful Hamilton-based telecommunications company founded on the principles of integrity, reliability, and innovation. “We understand the challenge, and are pleased to be working with Lambton College, as the college has expertise for video measurement, data mining, processing, and artificial intelligence.”
Lambton College’s Applied Research and Innovation program has built a reputation around working collaboratively with small and medium-sized companies. From 2016 to 2017 Lambton College worked with 153 partners for a total 111 projects. It is also the top college for number of projects funded by Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE). Lambton College is #1 in Ontario and #3 in Canada in research funding according to Research Infosource Ranking in 2016.
“We are very excited about this project, especially the artificial intelligence area,” said Dr. Mehdi Sheikhzadeh, the Executive Dean of Applied Research and Innovation at Lambton College. “The area of artificial intelligence (A.I.) is very important to us, and many industries are approaching Lambton College for their projects using A.I. algorithms and methodologies. Projects similar to the one with Clearcable helps us to build a new area of research, attract new faculty and more companies. It’s an important step in our growth.”
The applied research project has been designed and developed in such a way that a close collaboration between the two research teams – Clearcable and Lambton College – on all aspects of the project is emphasized and “highly encouraged”.
Dr. Sheikhzadeh and McCann developed this applied research collaboration on their way back from Taipei, Taiwan, where both men attended the 2017 “Internet of Cities Forum” in February. Both McCann and Dr. Sheikhzadeh are board members of the Intelligent Community Forum Canada.
